“Machine a Laver”

On Thursday we headed off for a beach walk to a natural tidal pool called the washing machine or “Machine a Laver”. The trail starts out in the area of Grand Fond on a beach that is made up of large flat coral stones and after about 1/2 km you then start climbing the rock cliffs, dirt banks and around the scrub brush that covers the area. The views are quite spectacular however there are times when you are quite high above the ocean and a slip or trip probably wouldn’t be that good for you. Anyway after about 25 – 30 minutes you get to the “Machine a Laver”….. the natural tidal pool. The interesting thing is the tidal pool is very calm, the water is very warm and there is a lot of sea life attached and/or swimming around. But just outside this protected serene area the ocean is crashing on the rocks and occasionally a larger swell will wash over the rocks and a wave will surge into the tidal pool. This keeps the sea water refreshed however the sea life is pretty well trapped inside this area. Enjoy the pictures.st-barts-feb-4-10-011st-barts-feb-4-10-014st-barts-feb-4-10-017st-barts-feb-4-10-019st-barts-feb-4-10-027st-barts-feb-4-10-022

Hi Guys.

Looks like you are still having a WONDERFUL time.

Just wondering where the ‘cave’ picture was taken?? It looks like the trail between Anse de Flamand and Anse de Colombie. Is it??

One of our favourite hikes on St. Barts is the trail from Colombie to Flamand.

Enjoy your last week in the sun.

God Bless

All the pictures were taken on the hike to the “Washing Machine”, the tidal pool was the destination and is worth the hike into. Although in the picture it looks like a cave, it is actually just a large rock and someone has placed a wooden bench underneath……… a great spot for a quick rest and a drink of water. We know the hike from Flamands to Colombier and the large cave the hike goes by. Our villa in Anse de Cayes is fairly close to this area and although we have been once this trip we will most likely head back another few times.
Take care…….. Larry & Brenda
